Critique for Home Counties Cocker Club

24/02/2013

My thanks to Jonathan Daltry and his committee for their invitation to judge the ‘Special Award’ classes at their show. A friendly, welcoming show with great hospitality, an entry I was thrilled with and some lovely dogs to judge. What more could I ask for?

Special Puppy Dog/Bitch (10,0a)

What a lovely class of some very nice puppies

1st  1st Kerry’s Claramand Beauty In Blonde at Corbeara.  A very nice 10mth Golden B. Lovely shape with nice head, dark eye and good earset. Super lay of shoulder, well sprung ribs of good depth. Good rear with lovely tail set and carriage, always wagging which is nice to see. Coat coming along nicely. Best mover, true coming and going.

2nd Thomas’ Fendrove Mr Bo Jangles by Claramand. 8mth Golden D. Another very pleasing and promising puppy. Lovely head and eye, super front and rear assemblies. Slightly shorter cast than my winner and also in good coat. Not as positive on the move.

3rd Wyeth’s Fendrove Betty Boop

Special Post Graduate Dog/Bitch(14,4)

A number of dogs that looked nice on the table were disappointing on the move.

1st Anderson’s Sonaham Ginger Nut. 22mth  O/R B. One of those dogs that doesn’t necessarily catch your eye to start with but when you get hands on and watch her move there is lots to like. Of good overall shape and size with pleasing head and eye. Good length of neck into well laid shoulders over well sprung ribs of good depth. Nice angles to the rear. Nice thick coat although not all the furnishings so many desire. On the move though she was the truest of them all

2nd Thomas’ Merry Cocktails Manager by Claramand (Imp). 14mth Golden D. Heavier in head than I prefer but in proportion and with nice eye and correct ears. Good length of neck into very well laid shoulders. Good ribbing with good depth. Short coupled and lovely rear angles. Moves true with a good action.

3rd Rihoy’s Sunnerset Over The Rainbow.

Special Open Dog/Bitch (6,1)

A lovely class headed up by 2 very nice Black boys.

1st West’s Sheigra Sugar Daddy with Donmyl JW. Lovely young man just 20mths. Presenting a lovely picture with good head, masculine but refined, with dark eye. Good neck to super shoulders over well sprung ribs of good depth.  Short strong loin to lovely rear angulation. Finished off with a good coat. A true mover with plenty of drive. Best Special.

2nd Moorat’s Sunnerset Moonlight Dancer. Another lovely boy, well made with pleasing head. Good neck with well laid shoulders. Good spring and depth of chest. Lovely rear angles. Also in good coat. Moved well but preferred the tail carriage of my winner.

3rd Fajardo’s Glohill Young Gun at Sanmatayo.
